How much does it cost to import a vehicle from Japan to Europe ?

There are two customs fees in Europe :

  • Standard rate 10%, applied on all vehicle under 30 years of age (VAT will be applied afterwards)
  • Reduced rate 5.5%, applied on all vehicle above 30 years of age (no VAT applied)

Examples :

  •  For a -30 year old vehicle :

Total price at port = 10,000€

+ Customs duty (10%) = 11,000€

+ Customs fee (300€) = 11,300€

+ Revsedge fee (1000€) = 12,300€

+ VAT (20% France) = 14,760€

Total estimated budget = 14,760€ (taking delivery at port)

  • For a +30 year old vehicle :

Total price at port = 10,000€

+ Customs duty (5.5%) = 10,550€

+ Customs fee (300€) + VAT (20% France) = 10,910€

+Revsedge fee (1000€) + VAT (20% France) = 12,110€

Total estimated budget = 12,110€ (taking delivery at port)

 

What is the meaning of the different grades on the vehicle auction sheet ?

  • Exterior grades
S Brand new car

-12 month

-10,000km

 

6 Brand new car

-12 month

-30,000km

 

5 As good as new

 

4.5 Very slightly used

 

4 Used with the slighest blemishes

 

3.5 Good condition with visible blemishes

 

3 Average condition with light damage

 

2 Poor condition with significant damages, but functional

 

R / RA Minor accident repair / Heavily modified

 

XX or *** Damaged car or doesn’t start

 

  • Interior grades
A Brand new condition or as new
B Very good condition
C Average condition with visible stains, scratches or holes
D Bad condition with visible cigarette’s mark, stains, or smell and major tears
E Very poor overall condition (may include all above mentioned or worse)
